First Post - 6/9/2026
This post is a test, an introduction, and an open book of our plans for the next 3-5 years:
First, who is currently behind BUGS?
Well, me, Nicholas Khan. I’m a life-long Howell resident, and I doubt that will change anytime soon. I am an accountant by trade, a hobbyist baker & mycologist. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rutgers University this past may with my bachelors degree in Accounting, and a minor in Computer Science, and membership with the honors college. I recently accepted a job offer as a corporate tax accountant with PricewaterHouseCoopers LLP, working out of their New York Office.
All of this raises the question, “Why are you starting BUGS? And how did you get this idea?” While attending Rutgers, I saw the amount of food that the cafeteria and the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen location on campus would throw out daily. It became clear to me that food waste is a huge issue, and this was just a small selection.
I came across BSFL while doing a research project for the honors college; it’s a much longer story than I can fit into this post. But in summation, the project had inspired me to start practicing raising BSFL in my house, and I’ve been doing so for around 2 years now.
Our 5 Year Plan.
1. Expand our food waste pickup to cover
2. Developing our social media presence
3. Product research and development with BSFL.
4. Scale operations to allow us to decrease the price of your pickups.
5. Hire our first few employees. (Who, you’ll all get acquainted with when they join us)
6. Establish an official BSFL Food waste recycling Facility.
Of course there is a lot of work that goes into this and I am omitting some more intricate details, but this is what the future of BUGS looks like and I hope to meet all of these metrics within the next 3-5 years of course.
